Maria counsels public charities, private foundations, and tax-exempt governmental organizations on a wide range of legal issues, including formation, governance, and federal and state regulatory compliance.
Before joining the firm, Maria spent over a decade as a tax controversy attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, including three years in the Small Business/Self-Employed Division and eight years in the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division. Drawing on her extensive federal background, she has since specialized in the nonprofit and exempt organizations sector, gaining valuable experience as a manager at a Big 4 accounting firm and as an attorney with a national law firm.
