Schell Bray PLLC is proud to announce that Doris R. Bray recently received the N.C. Bar Association Business Law Section’s highest honor, its Distinguished Service Award. This award was established to recognize and encourage extraordinary service to the Business Law Section, the legal profession and the public, above and beyond what should be expected from any good lawyer.
Ms. Bray was asked to serve as the first Chair of the Business Law Section when it was organized in 1979. She was a trailblazer early in her career and became widely known as an exceptional corporate and securities lawyer. Her professional recognitions are extensive, including membership in Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite Hall of Fame, based upon state-wide voting by her peers.
Ms. Bray spent 20 years as a member, Vice Chair and Chair of the North Carolina General Statutes Commission, a working committee charged with continually monitoring and updating the laws of North Carolina. She served on the drafting committees for the current versions of the N.C. Business Corporation Act and the N.C. Nonprofit Corporation Act, and she was also a long standing member of the Board of Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company, which specializes in insurance products for the legal profession.
